Henry Osborne, from the Greenbank Hotel, was named Apprentice of the Year at the awards evening in Newquay with his “committed attitude and dedication to his career and training at Cornwall College” cited as reasons for him winning the accolade.

Penryn-based Eight Wire meanwhile, which specialises in design and marketing, won the Commitment to Graduate Development award as a result of the “positive impact that graduates have had on the business.”

The awards, now in their sixth year, are designed to recognise those businesses across the South West which have seen exceptional growth and success as a result of training and developing staff.

South West Water, Cornwall Solar Panels and Ocean Housing Group were also amongst the winners.

Raoul Humphreys, deputy CEO of Cornwall College, opened the awards.

He said: “The entries to this year's awards have all been exceptional and I know the judges had a very difficult time in selecting just one winner in each category.

“It is so inspiring to see the tremendous successes that businesses in the South West have seen as a result of training and developing their staff.”
