A NEW “high street champion” is being sought for Falmouth’s Business Improvement District following the resignation of one of its directors.

Jonathan Griffin, director of the Maritime Museum in Falmouth, has been involved with the BID as a director and steering group member for more than four years, but has decided to call it a day.

Falmouth BID manager, Richard Wilcox, said: “Jonathan has been a great ambassador for the BID, supporting me on various projects including the development and launch of the official town website which has gone from strength to strength.

“I’d like to thank him for giving up his time for the BID.”

Mr Griffin’s departure leaves a vacancy on the BID board for a new director who will be designated as a high street champion.

The role is voluntary and involves giving up time from their day job to help support the town.

The new champion’s role will involve working the board and Mr Wilcox on three main areas: n Continuing to drive forward the Shop Local campaign and supporting local businesses wherever and however they can.

n Establishing a new ‘Retail Working Group’ that will be the “eyes and ears” for the town and for BID, providing information and evaluation on the impact of events, festivals, campaigns and one-off initiatives.

n Work with businesses towards securing a second term for the BID, which will be subject to a ballot later this year.

The Falmouth BID was established in 2009 following a vote among businesses across the town. It is a not-for-profit company that is delivering a number of innovative projects that aim to improve the trading environment of Falmouth.

It has the support of more than 400 local businesses.
