Bissoe-based pump manufacturing company Kensa Engineering has installed 200 heat pumps in 90 days in a joint project with a Somerset housing group.

Manufacturing ground source heat pumps from the old Mount Wellington Mine site in Bissoe, near Truro, Kensa manufactured and managed the installation for the Yarlington Housing Group, improve the lives of vulnerable residents living in sheltered accommodation.

To support the programme and Kensa's growth plans, several local employees were recruited.

Simon Lomax, Kensa's managing director, said: β€œIn addition to responding to the pleas of tenants to provide lower cost heating, each heat pump will contribute a significant environmental benefit, reducing carbon emissions by around 60 per cent.”

Kensa modified the heat pumps to feature easy-to-use controls. The appliances were also placed outside the properties in custom made weather-resistant enclosures, in order to not take up space within the house.

The collaboration involved a team of over 120 staff, including resident liaison officers from Yarlington, heating and plumbing companies, drilling contractors and ground workers.
