Head Chef Nigel Wilkes is used to dishing out the orders to his kitchen staff. But soon he’ll be crying “Yes Chef!” to apprentice Josh Day as he takes over the pots and pans at the Boslowick Inn next week.

Josh Day is a Level 2 Catering Apprentice with Cornwall College Business and is joining in the celebrations for National Apprenticeship Week. Josh will be finding out exactly what life in the top chef job is like as he plans, manages and cooks a special curry evening at the Boslowick Inn.

Josh initially started at the Boslowick Inn part-time, but managers Sue and Steve Perry recognised his talent and passion for cooking and suggested he pursue a career in catering by completing an apprenticeship with Cornwall College Business.

He has used his apprenticeship training to craft a special apprenticeship week menu that includes braised steak chasseur served with a spring onion and horseradish mash and seasonal vegetables and a chicken breast in a tarragon and mushroom cream sauce, served with sautéed potatoes and garden peas.

Head Chef Nigel Wilkes said: “It will be nice to step back and watch Josh take control of my kitchen, as I feel he is ready to take the lead and show us his culinary ability.”

Josh’s Apprenticeship Week Curry Night is at the Boslowick Inn in Falmouth on Friday, March 15 from 6pm. Reservations can be made by calling 01326 312010.
