A selection of beers from Penryn's Rebel Brewing Company has been shipped to Amsterdam without the use of any fossil fuels.

The drinks travelled on board the fair-transport sailing vessel Tres Hombres, and arrived in the Dutch port on May 9 after leaving Falmouth on April 15 and stopping briefly at the Isle of Wight.

The special cargo consists of a selection of Rebel beers including Penryn Pale Ale, a beer which was named in honour of the town it was produced in and where rum that came off the Tres Hombres at Custom House Quay was bottled, and they will be sold at the Noordermarkt farmers' market.

Matt Kemp from Rebel brewery said: 'We are happy to say that this will become a yearly event and we hope to do more trades like this in the future. We loved working with the ship's crew to bottle their rum and they loved the fact that we still bottle and label everything by hand at the brewery. Also trades like this are a great way to do business ethically.'

Tres Hombres is hoping to revive an industry in shipping goods under sail, and set sail from Holland on October 18 2013, calling in to Norway, France, Portugal and the Canaries on her way to Brazil and the Caribbean, and returning via Bermuda, the Azores, Falmouth and the Isle of Wight before the last leg to her home port in Amsterdam.
