THE theme for this year’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion event was “sexual identity.” Students produced work around this theme, as part of their course or specifically for the competition, which was exhibited at Truro College’s EDI Fair.

The Fair was well supported not only by students of the College but also by many external agencies including the Intercom Trust, Yay! Cornwall, Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust, Cornwall Faith Forum & Dor Kemmyn Project, Devon & Cornwall Police and ABC (Anti-Bullying in Cornwall). Hospitality and Professional Cookery students at the College provided a selection of ‘around the world’ themed canapés for the event.

Competitions entries were submitted for three categories: written, visual and performance art. The competition generated a large number of high quality entries from students studying on a wide range of courses at both Truro College and Penwith College. The entries demonstrated both a depth of understanding and the extent to which College courses successfully address issues around equality, diversity and inclusion.

Georgie Harding won the Visual Art prize for her painting of a man wearing make-up, demonstrating the blurring of gender boundaries. “It shows you can do whatever you want,” Georgie said of the artwork. “Express yourself and break through boundaries. Winning is great and makes me appreciate the time and work I put into it.”

The Poetry prize was won by Hannah James and George Summers won the Film prize. The winners were presented with their £100 prize by the Director of Curriculum, Mark Wardle.
