A BRAND new apprenticeship and full-time course in construction operations has been launched by the Cornwall College Group in conjunction with Cormac Services.

The new programme, which is due to start in September, has been created directly in response to industry needs and the huge demand for skilled workers to support development across Cornwall and Devon.

Through its partnership with Cormac and approval by Kier Group, learners will become trained in essential skills in groundworks; including paving, drainage, concreting and kerb laying.

Curriculum lead for construction, Bob Harris, is keen to get more people involved in the industry. He said: “Groundworks includes everything that happens before the building goes up, it’s really important work and businesses are crying out for more people who have the relevant skills. These new courses will train apprentices as they work in the industry, as well as full-time learners who will then start their career.

“By working with industry partners we have created a course which is relevant to our local labour market and we will ensure that our learners leave us ready for the world of work.”

Applications are now open for the apprenticeship and full-time course, which will run from Cornwall College Camborne and Duchy College Stoke Climsland from September. For further information or to apply please call 0845 22 32 567 or visit www.cornwall.ac.uk.
