TWO new cafés of the new brand, neat, a branch of the Helston-based Kerra's Catering, have been launched at Tremough Innovation Centre in Penryn.

"Our motto for the business is: easy, fresh, fair,” said Kerra Buchanan, owner and founder of the company. "The food is simple, delicious, fairly priced and ethically-sourced from the wealth of really fantastic produce available locally.”

Kerra and her team won the contract for the Cornwall Innovation Centres in late 2014, after a competitive process which resulted in Kerra’s Catering winning the tender and investing over £35,000 in the new brand. The winning bid also earned the company funding for branding development from award-winning design company Sames and Littlejohns.

“It was challenging for us to find a partner firm which shares our style, ethos and which could meet the demands of the wide range of businesses at the centres,” said Richard Snell, manager of Tremough Innovation Centre. “Kerra's company has a sterling reputation, her menus are innovative and she is very business focussed which is why Kerra’s Catering won this tender.”

Customers can enjoy salads served in edible bowls, made of crushed bran; soups and sandwiches with fillings ranging from the exotic. roast chicken with Lebanese spice, yoghurt and mint, to the traditional, roast pork with sage and onion stuffing. There are plenty of vegetarian options and also days when the team serve treats such as Anne’s Pasties or hotdogs.

The launch of neat marks yet another chapter in the success story that is Kerra’s Catering. In ten years, Kerra has gone from running the business while working part-time as head chef at the Paris Hotel in Coverack, to running Kerra’s Catering full time in 2011. In the last four years the business has doubled its turnover annually and it now employs 30 people.

The company caters for weddings and events, offers hog roasts through its branch Helford Hog Roasts and also provides picnics and catering on yachts. Kerra’s Catering is also making waves in corporate catering and among other prestigious contracts, the team have been delighted to cater for Cornish Mutual at the Royal Cornwall Show and Devon County Show.

"It’s hard work but I’m passionate about what I do and I love working with so many amazing businesses and producers around Cornwall,” said Kerra. “That’s why I’m thrilled about launching neat - there are so many interesting people and companies at both Pool and Tremough.”

A further café in the Health and Wellness Innovation Centre in Truro is planned for 2016.
