A SPECIAL stout is in the making to celebrate Falmouth Oyster Festival. Skinner’s Brewery has made a batch of Pennycomequick especially for the October event.

The stout uses Cornish roasted barley grown on the banks of the river Fal in Restronguet Barton near Mylor. It is a deep, dark, zesty brew with rich chocolate and coffee aromas. Its bittersweet texture perfectly complements oysters.

Skinner’s has supported the Falmouth Oyster Festival since the first event by brewing the celebratory stout. Pennycomequick is named after the early Celtic name for Falmouth which was Peny-cwm-cuic.

Steve Skinner, head taster and chief executive of Skinner’s Brewery said: “Pennycomequick is one of my personal favourites of all the seasonal beers we produce each year. It’s the taste of early autumn for many real ale fans in Cornwall and is generally regarded as one of the finest dark beers in the South West, winning the Cornish champion beer award in the past. Perfect with fresh shellfish like the world famous Fal Oysters or with a pasty, ‘Penny’ is a great Cornish beer and one that Skinner’s are proud to brew each October for this great Cornish festival on our doorstep.”

Skinner’s has supported the Falmouth Oyster Festival since the first event held 19 years ago. This year the event runs from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th October.

Mike Rangecroft of Falmouth Festivals, organisers of the festival, said: “Each year Skinner’s Brewery produce a Pennycomequick stout especially for the festival, in addition to the splendid real ales they are best known for.Falmouth Festivals are proud to have this longstanding partner alongside us throughout the 19 years of this important festival for Falmouth.”
