A new family-run riverside café/bar/restaurant will open at Jubilee Wharf in Penryn next month, continuing a family tradition of providing sustenance for residents and visitors alike.

Muddy Beach, which will replace Miss Peapods, is the new venture of Christian Dann and his family. Christian has worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry for nine years. With a long family history in Penryn on his mother’s side, whose family name is Barnicoat, Christian is following in the footsteps of his great-great-grandfather, who owned Penryn's very first fish and chip shop.

He said: "We’re really pleased to have found such a fantastic location in Penryn and are very lucky to have a talented team of chefs and front of house staff on-board. Our aim is to establish Muddy Beach as one of the main venues to visit in Cornwall, with a big focus on exceptional food and excellent customer service.”

Penryn-based company Fastnet Marketing have developed the new branding and website for Muddy Beach. Its managing director, Sarah-Jayne Leverton, said: "It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Christian and his family and we’re delighted with how the new branding, website and signage has been received within the local community. We can’t wait to try the café out ourselves.”

The name Muddy Beach, which will already be familiar with locals, was chosen as it is also the nickname for the beach seen directly opposite the café. Having strong historical links in Penryn, Christian and his family thought this would be a very fitting name for their establishment.

The new business is described as a "stylish yet relaxed venue offering locally sourced food, excellent customer service, river views, fine wines and fabulous coffee." In addition to normal opening hours, the restaurant will also initially be open on Friday and Saturday evenings for dinner with plans for more evening openings during next summer.
