Trebah Garden has re-opened its award-winning cafe which has a fresh new look and a new menu created by executive chef and catering manager, Daniel Gvalda.

"It's an exciting daily challenge to come up with dishes that reflect the incredible seasonal ingredients that are available in Cornwall," said Daniel. "We strive to create dishes that are both interesting and quick to table in our busy and up-beat dining room."

Trebah Kitchen is a fast paced environment catering for both locals and garden visitors. Situated within the visitor centre with its own external terraced area that over looks tropical plants and palms, Trebah Kitchen can be accessed free of charge without entering the garden itself. Open daily from 10am serving homemade cakes, breakfast, lunches and afternoon tea, it is the perfect place to relax after walking the stunning gardens.

The new look cafe has been designed by Anna Hart, whose company is based just a couple of miles away. She has utilised as many Cornish elements in her concept as possible. Cornish manufacturers Mark Product have provided all of the exterior furniture as well as the built in seating elements and tables inside with local cabinet makers employed to create a new counter and rustic partitions. The space also boasts a bespoke handmade gargantuan chandelier created by local craftsman Tom Raffield.

Anna Hart said: "We have been delighted to work with the management team at Trebah Garden on the opportunity to refurbish their café space. A combination of opportunities and challenges were presented by the space which needed to be balanced with the flow and customer experience.

"Two strong visual elements of existing architecture and views to the gardens played an important part in shaping the interior space. We wanted customers to enjoy exploring the café inside and out as much as they enjoy exploring the garden. With such a friendly team at Trebah the café needed to emphasis this by feeling welcoming, playful and light with a healthy dose of practicality to accommodate the high seasonal footfall.”

Director of Trebah Garden, Nigel Burnett, said: “We have had great fun planning and implementing the café project. It is a total upgrade and since its re-opening the responses to it have been amazingly positive. Using good local businesses and suppliers where possible.

"We recognise the significance of the café, its ambience and our standards of hospitality and service to the visitor experience and crucially we want to showcase the best of local, seasonal produce, championing local food and drink producers. We also work very hard to provide a good range and choice of food for those with a range of dietary needs.”
