They might not be catching the stagecoach, but the return of Poldark to the nation's screens on Sunday has prompted huge interest in bookings for one Falmouth hotel.

While Ross Poldark's loving wife Demelza was jumping on the coach from Falmouth to Bodmin, viewers were taking to the internet, with a 210 per cent increase in bookings for the Greenbank Hotel and a 152 per cent increase in web visits, compared to the same date last year.

Last year Ross, played by Aiden Turner, enticed 5.9 million viewers to the show, fuelling a surge in visits to Cornwall, and the Greenbank Hotel, has seen a year-on-year growth of nearly 25 percent since the drama hit the screens in April 2015.

Ben Young, general manager, said: “With an autumnal tone to series two its timing is perfect for enticing visitors to the county and with Falmouth featuring so prominently in the first episode it has resulted in a welcome boost to our autumn bookings. With everything the drama showcases right on our doorstep here in Falmouth we look forward to welcoming those in search of Poldark county.”

The recently refurbished four-star Greenbank Hotel is situated on the water’s edge overlooking Falmouth harbour in Cornwall. Falmouth’s oldest hotel is the only hotel in the south west to boast its own private pontoons and quay, so guests can arrive by land or water. Those looking to experience two of Poldark’s popular destinations, Truro and Falmouth, can book a coast and city break this autumn from £325 for two nights, for two people staying at The Alverton Hotel in Truro and The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth.
