Falmouth's mayor Grenville Chappel and his wife June were the first customers of the town's newest shop on Friday.
The pair, along with town manager Richard Gates, had been invited to the official opening of The Works in Market Street. Described as the UK's leading value retailer of gifts, art materials, craft materials, hobbies, stationery, toys and books, the company also opened the doors of its new store in Truro on the same day.
The Falmouth store has created seven permanent jobs - two full time with the rest part time. Its manager, Melanie Gorman, said they were "absolutely delighted" to be in Falmouth. "We just hope we are going to bring something that is great value and diverse to Falmouth," she added. "Because we have a diverse range of products, we are going to match the whole ethos of the town."
Mr Chappel said he was sure The Works is going to be well received by residents and visitors. "It is the right sort of shop for Falmouth," he said.
