One of Cornwall’s leading heating and renewable specialists has strengthened its commitment to creating the next generation of skilled engineers.

Penryn-based Blue Flame has announced its new intake of apprentices. Joining the team are Lewis Allen, Dwayne Nosworthy, Sam Smith, Joe Togwell and Ryan Astbury. Paul Smith, Blue Flame’s training and development director, said: “Apprentices play a key part in the business development and I am proud of the work we do to train the next generation of skilled engineers.

“A number of our current managers started as apprentices and it’s brilliant to see talented, young individuals progress within the company.”

Since it was formed in 1988 the company has trained over 60 apprentices. It currently has 23 trainees on its book, with around ten of those due to graduate this year. For the last two years the company has run the Blue Flame Academy in partnership with Cornwall College.

Jonathan Ninnes, Cornwall College’s curriculum lead for construction, said: “We’re really pleased to be continuing our partnership to provide both classroom and on the job based training.

“It’s fantastic to have a company like Blue Flame in Cornwall that is so committed to providing opportunities for young people, as well as creating defined career progression.

“We wish the new apprentices well and look forward to see them developing their skills and expertise.”

Blue Flame employs 108 staff to support its 12,000 heating, electrical, plumbing and renewables customers across Cornwall.
