Over 800 people were at the inaugural fine art and collectables sale for The Duchy Auction Company Limited in Falmouth on Saturday (24/9).

A steady flow of locals and interested parties from further afield poured through the doors to view the eclectic mix of items to go under the hammer.

Auctioneer Andrew Granger introduced three generations of his family to the crowd, offering many years of experience to call upon and showing that auctions are for all ages.

Items of particular interest that went under the hammer included an 18th century draughtsman’s shagreen etui, which fetched more than £900, a pair of crystal chandeliers for more than £2,500, a rare map of London for over £4,500, a Dunhill silver plated lighter for over £250. A Faberge ring took close to £3,000, an oil painting by Kenneth Newton sold for more than over £2,000), a silver pin cushion in the form of a chick went for nearly £300, a French secretaire for more than £1,000), and a gold fob chain sold for more than £700.

More than 90 per cent of all items were sold and the next sale will take place on Saturday, November 26.
