Falmouth’s oldest hotel is pioneering virtual reality technology - using an immersive digital experience, to transport prospective visitors to Cornwall

The Greenbank Hotel has introduced a 360-degree tour facility to its website. The 400-year-old, four-star hotel, is able to show guests exactly what they can expect before they arrive. The immersive tour creates a cinematic experience, offering guests an opportunity to visualise a stay at the hotel, in a way images and video can’t fully portray. The new technology showcases the hotel’s stunning harbourside location and gives a 360 footage of the recently refurbished interiors.

Cornish visual mapping specialists, 3 Deep Aerial, created the innovative tool to showcase the hotel’s stylish new look and waters edge location.

Ben Young, the hotel's general manager, said: “The Greenbank Hotel is part of the very fabric of Falmouth’s history - what’s new and exciting is enabling visitors an authentic digital gateway to discover and visualise, like never before, a holiday in Falmouth. For us, it’s all about understanding and anticipating the needs of the discerning traveller and showcasing Cornwall at its best.”

Mike Postons, founder of 3 Deep Aerial, said: "The concept of 360 degree aerial imaging is at the cutting edge of what UAVs (drones) are currently being used for. Cornwall has some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK and as a Cornish company we wanted to pioneer the technology here first.

"The Greenbank Hotel with its stunning panoramic views across the harbour and beautiful interior design was an obvious place to start. Combining both aerial and interior 360° photography into a complete virtual tour of the hotel, makes this a first of its kind in the south west.”
