Fifteen entrepreneurs are to launch their new businesses at a Christmas showcase in West Cornwall this week. Spark, the start up business programme, is holding a joint launch event for the new businesses on Wednesday, December 7, at Penwith College which is open to the public.

It is set to be a fantastic showcase of local talent as the new businesses sell their products and services. Among the diverse range of businesses launching is Raptor 3D Design Ltd founded by Karen Nicholas.

Her business turns concepts into reality by creating 3D visualisations and animations. Sisters Sarah and Emma Rippon will be promoting their new skincare oils range, Siskyn, which has already proved to be a popular product; and Marie Leggo will be showcasing her new wedding promotion service, WEGOTHITCHED.

Other business support groups will be in attendance to offer advice to the new entrepreneurs, such as the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Growth Hub, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be open from 4–5.30pm for members of the public to enjoy the start of the festive season and to support upcoming local businesses.

The new start up business programme Spark, which has been developed and is delivered by Truro and Penwith College, is packed full of knowledge and tools to support individuals to start or grow a business.

The five step process provides practical support through a range of workshops, business planning, guidance and one to one coaching and mentoring.

Designed to support each client on their journey to bringing their business idea to life, selected clients will receive a six week test trade period in a supportive environment to trial and start up the business. A grant of £500 for business start-up costs, plus a package of support and training in excess of £4,000 and a business mentor will also be provided. Once the business has started, there is continued support for up to 12 months.
