The team from Harbour Lights in Falmouth have shown that they really can make a difference after netting an award at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

The team scooped the prize for Best Run Medium Sized Business, for the efforts and focus that they put in to business practices that reduce the company's impact on the environment.

Pete Fraser, owner of Harbour Lights, said: "Our responsible sourcing and activities on sustainability have been driven from the team. We have an engaged younger workforce that really care and act on their passion for ensuring the business always operates with the absolute minimal effect on the environment.

"Earlier this year the Sustainable Restaurant Association awarded us their top three star rating. This isn't just a fad for us it is one of our core values. Being reconsidered by the CSA judges for an award is an honor and we are delighted."

In recent years there have been numerous changes at the restaurant, including putting a priority on local sourcing, reducing water consumption and changing electricity supplier to ensure it originates from renewable sources. All the business' fish is responsibly sourced and that has been part of its ethos for years.

The chippy also has its own green team run by representatives from the kitchen and front of house teams, and a community engagement champion to deliver a collaborative approach to achieve its green targets.

General manager Robin Peters added: "This award belongs to our team, they inspire us every day with ways of improving what we do and how we do it."
