Truro Nursery School has recently been awarded the enhanced accreditation from the children’s communication charity ICAN, who are experts at developing children’s speech language and communication skills.
To date Truro Nursery School is the only school in Cornwall to have achieved this award. It took about a year to complete and involved the training of all staff.
ICAN Early Talk Accreditation at enhanced level recognises good practice relating to working with children between the ages of birth and five years, who have speech and language delay and mild or moderate difficulties. "We are fully trained to support the communication skills of all children in collaboration with other professionals," said a spokesman for the nursery.
As a result of listening to what parents want, the nursery has changed it admissions policy and places are now offered on a first come, first served basis and parents can register as soon as their child is born.
