Truro and Penwith College are due to host a conference on apprenticeships and the changes made under the new Apprenticeship Levy.

Under the Levy, employers with a wage bill of over £3m will be required to make payments into a digital fund that the Government will top-up by 10 per cent, allowing them access to cover Apprenticeship training costs.

The levy comes as part of a raft of changes to the way that apprenticeships are run, which all aim to make Britain's apprenticeship programme among the best in the world.

Now, as part of National Apprenticeship Week, Truro and Penwith College will be hosting a conference at Haven House Conference and Training Centre on March 7, between 8.30am and 11.00am, to provide an update on these changes.

Apprenticeship training reforms planned for 2017 are due to shake up the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS).

NAS are working on employer-designed standards that will replace current Apprenticeship frameworks, and ensure apprentices are assessed against skill, knowledge and behaviour.

Speakers at the event will cover how apprenticeships work, new apprenticeship programmes and opportunities and the impact these will have on Cornish Businesses.

Cormac and Tregothnan Estate, winners of Large and SME Employer of the Year at the 2016 Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards, will share how they've ensured apprentices have delivered results for their businesses.

The College's apprenticeship team will also provide a step-by-step overview of what a typical apprenticeship programme includes and how it works.
