The Maritime Museum in Falmouth welcomed a crew from UWC Atlantic College who called in half way through a journey from their home in Wales to Bexhill-on-Sea, in what is believed to be one of the earliest examples of a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RIB).
The restored boat was designed and built at the college during the 1960s. The patent was sold to the RNLI for £1 and went on to become the service’s most active lifeboats named after its place of birth - the Atlantic |Class Lifeboat.
The crew took time out from their fundraising voyage to visit the Maritime Museum’s Search and Rescue exhibition, which explores the world of the maritime rescue services |and features an Atlantic 75 Inshore Lifeboat.
