FHC (Falmouth Harbour Commissioners) has relaunched its pilot service, which is now being operating under a new brand name – Falmouth Pilot Services.

Earlier this year FHC re-branded its leisure/moorings arm as Falmouth Haven, in line with its new business strategy for the future.

Launched this week, Falmouth Pilot Service aims to provide users with a more efficient and accessible service.

The FPS website is extremely informative and very user friendly allowing ships’ agents, shipmasters and owners to easily calculate pilotage charges in an instant.

Commenting on the launch, Duncan Paul, the service’s general manager, told the Packet: “This is a great step forward for us and our customers. We are proud of our reliable, efficient and safe service which is now being focused towards customer needs.

“Essentially it is the same service, but better. We look forward to working closely with our stakeholders to further improve it.”

Dave Ellis, chairman of Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, said: “This bold move not only improves services for users but also means each service can develop its own business plan to optimise the performance of FHC as a whole. This is helping fulfill our mission as a trust port, which is to operate in a commercial way to maximise efficiency and benefits to our stakeholders.”

An opportunity to ask questions about the new service will be made available at FHC’s annual public meeting on Tuesday, October 14, from 7.30pm at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall.
