Teachers and pupils of Class Three from Cusgarne County Primary School visited RFA Mounts Bay when the vessel berthed alongside Queen’s Wharf in Falmouth Docks.
The visit was part of the children’s World War II studies project and was used to demonstrate how the D-day landings of June 1944 would have been conducted by a modern day assault ship.
The pupils were shown around Mounts Bay, Falmouth’s adopted ship, by members of the Joint Ministry of Defence and A&P Cluster Support Team.
Class teacher Tim Barnard said: “The children enjoyed an exciting day and were thrilled to experience what life is like on such a big ship.”
