Roll-off vessel scheduled to berth

The Grimaldi Lines 56,000-ton roll-on roll-off vessel Grande Nigeria is scheduled to berth on County Wharf on Thursday, August 23, to load a newly-constructed rudder and various pieces of equipment for her dry-docking on the Tyne. The ship is expected to sail on the same tide.

She is the last of a four-ship multi-million pound contract won by the A&P Group with three ships already repaired at the port.

A&P Falmouth has constructed four large rudders measuring approximately 8.6m high by 6m wide – weighing 42 tonnes each – for Grimaldi’s multi-purpose ships Grande San Paolo, Grande Buenos Aires, Grande Francia and Grande Nigeria. The state-of-the-art Grande Class multi-purpose container/ roll on roll off vessels carry cars, trucks, other vehicles and container cargo around the world.
