MY lords, ladies and gentlemen of Cornwall, prepare to be delighted and amazed in a summer of pomp and pageantry at the Pendennis Castle Grand Medieval Joust.

For two days each week of the summer holidays visitors to Pendennis will be |transported back in time as the Grand Medieval Joust sets up camp in the castle grounds.

Budding lords and ladies of every age will experience the sights, smells and |entertainments of an authentic medieval celebration as the castle springs to life.

Wearing the colours of their region – North, South, East and West - the troupe of four courageous knights will |battle daily in the main arena.

Jousting on horseback and armed with a lance, the knights will fight to prove their superior power and chivalrous skills. Medieval merrymakers will have the chance to meet the knights before choosing their champion - and discover the secrets of their armour and weaponry as they are dressed in preparation for combat by their squires.

As well as experiencing the thrills and spills of an |authentic joust, spectators will be able to make merry with a feast of medieval |entertainments and treats.

Another ‘sport of kings’ will be explored within the castle grounds – and in the air above – as Falconers demonstrate the power of some impressive birds of prey.

A medley of music and dance will really bring the| historical high jinx to life and English Heritage’s own Jester extraordinaire, Peterkin, will be playing the fool as he delights with outrageous japes.

Don’t miss his notorious fire finale and top tips on tomfoolery for the next generation of jokesters in his school for fools. And for the brave, the |fearsome medieval executioner will share his most gruesome and gory stories - listen if you dare.

This jam-packed family day out promises an unrivalled way to experience the fun and thrills of medieval |amusements.

So head to the arena, ready the horses, and choose your champion wisely – Let the| contest begin!
