This bank holiday weekend New Dawn Traders sails into Falmouth for a weekend of trading, sharing, and feasting. Join the adventure under sail from May 1 to 4.

New Dawn Traders along with Fairtransport Shipping are instigating a revolution with its pioneering fair trade by sail approach. The adventurous traders are returning to the historic trading port of Falmouth, to unload their exotic treasures, for the second year running.

After travelling 45 days at sea as part of an eight month voyage on-board Tres Hombres (the world’s only transatlantic engineless cargo vessel) from the Caribbean, the ship’s bounty of 18-year old rum and organic, fair trade cocoa will be unloaded in Falmouth. These exotic treasures are destined to become New Dawn Rum and New Dawn Chocolate.

The arrival of Tres Hombres and her belly full of rum, and cocoa marks the start of four days of festivities centred on Falmouth shores.

As Tres Hombres sails into port on May 1, there will be celebrations on land, with music and performances from The Story Republic. Offering a travelling world of words, The Story Republic celebrates Cornwall’s culture story in a unique fashion.

Watch the unloading of the exotic treasure from Tres Hombres to its next mode of transport – a horse and cart – for a procession through Penryn.

During the evening Miss Peapods in Penryn and meet people who share a passion for sustainability, daring the way to a more sustainable future. Chat to Andreas Lackner, from Fairtransport, Marcus Rowden, Grayhound Lugger Sailing, Mike Longman from Chocolarder and many more. Discover the world of ethical food, trade and ocean conversation. Happy hour starts at 6pm, tapas and talks start at 8pm.

On May 2 there is a chance to board the ship, with water taxi’s from custom house quay, before a double bill of films at the Poly. See Wild Ocean Wonderings , exploring life aboard the Tres Hombres from the perspective of a bemused landlubber and Nothing like chocolate a documentary by Kum-Kum Bhavnani, which tells the story of the radical Grenada Chocolate Company.

Apocalypso at Miss Peapods sees Sunday out with a swing as party goers are invited to don their brightest threads to launch of the second edition New Dawn Rum. Raise a glass alongside expertly crafted tropical punches and the finest afro-future-pirate-calypso tunes from Funky Bompa, Jonny Mintaka and Gold Of My Own (GOMO).

Also on Sunday, and again on Monday there will be a rather unusual tour of Falmouth. Taking place at 6.30pm, there is a chance to discover the real landmarks and the facts about them that simply aren’t true. This hilarious tour will help you see Falmouth with new eyes.
