Cornwall Wildlife Trust is gearing up for their biggest annual event, as its Wildlife Celebration returns to Trebah Garden near Falmouth this weekend.

This event celebrates the Trust’s work protecting Cornwall’s wildlife and wild places. There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy and a chance to get up close to some of Cornwall’s most fascinating wildlife.

Visitors will be able to meet buzzards, hawks, owls, reptiles and bats, plus watching various demonstrations relating to native wildlife. The beautiful location will be used to its fullest, with nature walks, rockpool rambles on Trebah’s private beach, bird box making and Fox Club, the Trust’s junior section will be running fun and creative activities for younger conservationists.

One of the highlights is sure to be the chance to get up close and even hold some of Cornwall’s most interesting and often elusive wildlife. The ever popular Feadon Farm Wildlife Centre at Gwel An Mor will be bringing Sly the barn owl, Chunk the eagle owl, Bea the buzzard and Simon the corn snake as well as ferrets and field mice. Members of Cornwall Bat Group will be present, along with Maisy the brown long eared bat, Norman the noctual and the Pipistrelle bats.

Visitors will also be treated to bird-ringing demonstrations with the British Trust for Ornithology, where they can see Trebah’s wild birds close-up and learn how tracking birds can tell us so much about them and be vital to their conservation. There will be special sessions to check the bird nest-boxes for chicks in the gardens. Bugs and mini beasts can also be seen in fascinating detail with Kernow Microscopical Society.

The Trust’s Marine Team will be on hand to talk about their exciting marine conservation work known as ‘Living Seas’ as well as running rock pool rambles on the beautiful Polgwidden Cove. Trebah is at the mouth of the Helford, and the Helford Marine Conservation Group will be there to explain how visitors can help protect this very special estuary and its inhabitants, and Cornwall Seal Group can tell you all you ever wanted to know about Cornish seals.

Fox Club, the Trust’s junior membership will be running a host of fun and creative ArtRageous activities. The Nature Reserves team will also be helping visitors build their very own bird-nest box to take home for their own feathered visitors. You can also learn about the Trust’s 57 nature reserves and the work it does to make sure they are havens for Cornwall’s rare and endangered wildlife.

The Environmental Records Centre for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (ERCCIS) and the Trust’s Wildlife Information Service (WIS) will be on hand on both days to help with any wildlife questions. From how to attract birds to your garden to the best way to look after your garden pond, they have all the answers. They will also show how to record the wildlife you see when out and about so the information can be used for wildlife research, which in turn protects it.

Learn how geological features and wildlife goes hand in hand, with the Cornwall Geoconservation Group who will be displaying all the unique rock formations we have in Cornwall, and why they must be protected.

Entry is £9 for adults, seniors £8, students £8, five to15 years £3, and under 5 years free.
