Gardens around the Old Watermill that sits on the edge of St. Mabyn and which was until 1947 a working mill will be open for the first time on Saturday, June 28.
Open from 11am to 4pm, the garden is the latest part of the National Trust’s Open Gardens scheme.
The gardens feature springs and ponds that were once used by The Old Water Mill, and there is all the delightful wildlife associated with wetland; dragonflies and frogs to name only few.
There are many mature trees and winding paths and walkers may see the rather plump, resident hedgehog.
One of the main features of the garden is the Alice in Wonderland Walk, which organisers have said is fantastic. Each area of the garden have been purposely designed to have different characters and colour schemes to attract, insects, birds and bees.
A gazebo and small lawn overlooks the lower pond with a Monet style bridge under an old chestnut tree, and there are benches to use to take in the views.
There is a young orchard, too. A large lawn with a specimen granite standing stone graces the front garden, which is backed by a wind proof hedge of fragrant Rugosa roses.
Animal lovers of all ages will be able to meet a happily rescued and re-homed pony from South West Equine Protection (SWEP), Pixie homes are there to be admire too.
Entrance is £4 for adults and under16s are free. For further information about any of the Open Gardens events visit www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.
