Taking space will be holding an art exhibition at The Crypt Gallery beneath the St Ives Society in Norway Square, St Ives from July 11 to 24.

Ten artists from the group will be participating in this show that will include large paintings as well cards and prints of their work.

Mary Fletcher’s work will be on display including the painting, Women Passing with Blue Hair, which is loosely based on Jo Mackintosh a textile artists extraordinare based in St Ives. Mary swiftly drew Jo as she was on the side of the road while Mary was waiting for the number 16 bus.

Katheryn Stevens will exhibiting her work for the first time in her town. She has recently returned from studying in Bath. Katheryn pours her paint out to make floating layers of colour, skilfully handled to make sublime poetic landscapes of the imagination.

Also present are landscape artists with a twist: Caroline Lyddington, Heather Burns and Tara Evans who are fairly new members of the group, which aims to democratically organise shows for women artists.

Beverly Morgante Le Levier, Joan Ford, Sonia Sjoholm, Karen Smith and Mary Taylor make up the ten. Each of these artists are persuing personal visions and individual use of media to develop unique work rather than repeating well used formulae. It is this approach to art that make the Taking Space Artists something to behold and the art exhibitions that the group put on well worth looking at.
