Kestle Barton are holding their first ever festival of children's literature, on Saturday.

The festival will include a day full of workshops with children's authors, illustrators and artists, as well as performances throughout the day by The Story Republicans.

Writers, Christopher William Hill, Mary Evans and Chris Higgins will be introducing their latest books to the children, and illustrator, Theo Carter-Weber, will be leading a workshop in which the children will produce and illustrate short stories.

Lucy Grant will be teaching workshops with various creative activities, and local children's author, Judy Scrimshaw, will be sharing her adventures of Morgowr, the Sea Giant.

The festival of children's literature will take place at Kestle Barton on Saturday, July 16 from 10am to 4pm, at a charge of £4 per child for the day full of workshops.

The festival coincides with an exhibition of paintings by Nicola Bealing, which are based on dark stories she has unearthed in Helston Museum’s archive, and the night before the family event, Annamaria Murphy will be hosting an evening meal and fireside storytelling at Kestle Barton, inspired by the art exhibition.

The evening of storytelling and dinner will be on Friday, July 15 at 6.30pm.

Tickets cost £15, and are available by calling 01326 231811. Booking is essential as places are limited.

The exhibition, entitled Death & Circuses, will be running from July 9 to September 4.

Both events are supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
