Families are invited to "go berserk" at the Maritime Museum this summer for Vulgar Vikings week.

The museum has a variety of Viking activities planned and children can make their own Viking helmets, swords and shields throughout the week of July 25 to 31, from 12pm to 3.30pm.

On July 25, at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm, Rattlebox Theatre will be providing entertainment with a tale of danger, trickery and beheading, looking at the outrageous adventures of the Norse gods and their war with the giants.

On 'Thorsday', July 28, at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2pm, children can meet the Norse men and women from the museum's Viking Voyagers exhibition and experience the "horrible, hairy history" brought to life with Morvleydh, the sea wolves.

They will also be given the chance to make an authentic ‘King Cnut’ Viking age coin to take home.

Vulgar Vikings week will be at the Maritime Museum from July 25 to 31.

Throughout the summer holiday, from July 18 to September 4, the museum is also hosting a Viking bear hunt around the museum to find Bjorn the Viking bear, who is hidden in the museum galleries.

All activities are free with the museum entrance ticket unless otherwise stated.

Children can take part in one creative craft activity each day, and adult supervision is required.
