Mighty and magnificent vegetables will be on display on Saturday for the 20th annual giant vegetable competition and show at Kehelland Trust.

Size will be valued before beauty at the event, which attracts cabbages measuring almost two metres across, metre-long carrots and mighty marrows.

There are also some 'lighter' categories in the competition, including the most unusual looking vegetable, vegetable creatures and some art work and creatures in the children’s categories.

The Cornish show plays host to some national winners in the giant vegetable community, which is worldwide, and local World Record holder, David Thomas will be supporting the event. As David is preparing for his entry into the national show at Malvern on September 24, his giant pumpkin will remain in the ground on Saturday though, growing in preparation.

The Giant Vegetable Competition and Show will be at Kehelland, near Camborne on Saturday, September 17 from 11am to 4pm.

Admission costs £1 and refreshments will be served throughout the day with the theme of vegetables, including Turkish spinach cake, carrot cake, beetroot and chocolate, and other unusual vegetable specialities.

The Trust shop will also be open for the event, selling Kehelland's own produce, as well as fair-trade produce, woodwork created on site with the Cornwall association of wood-turners and a range of perennial plants and seasonal bedding plants.
