There will be a chance to go to space from Falmouth this half term holiday, although your feet will remain on terra firma.

If you do fancy getting up close to our planets, there’s going to be an actual space portal in Falmouth thanks to the National Maritime Museum Cornwall which will play host to the Space Odyssey Planetarium during the school break.

There will be sessions for infants pitched particularly for three to five-year-olds who will find out about the Sun and the planets as well as Astronaut George’s adventures in the Solar System, Tim Peake’s mission aboard the International Space Station, the skies tonight and key moments in the history of space exploration.

Sessions for juniors will explore Tim Peake’s mission, Earth’s place in the solar system and in the galaxy, the skies tonight and key moments in the history of space exploration.

To find out times and dates and plan your mission go to nmmc.co.uk. Advance booking is essential for the planetarium.

In addition, the craft making centre will be up and running daily from February 11 to 19 when youngsters will be invited to make their own solar system mobiles, Nebular jars, bicarb rockets and Cartesian divers enabling them to land their space craft on the moon.

There will also be a Science of the Sea session on Thursday, February 16, run by the University of Exeter which will include marine themed talks, craft making and more with some marine experts.
