Anyone wanting to learn more about local winter bird life can take a walk with the South West Lakes Trust on Saturday, February 18, at Argal and College Lakes.

Visitors will be able to learn about the bird life which uses the lake habitat over winter, and hopefully catch a glimpse of some with the help of a local expert from the Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society.

After being closed to public access for more than 12 years due to inaccessible paths, the site was opened in September 2012 for locals and visitors alike to enjoy.

College Reservoir is a quiet site with a variety of habitats including wet woodland, standing water and broadleaf woodland. It is host to much wildlife including a good bird population, otters and a variety of bat species.

Participants should meet at Argal car park at 9.30am. The walk will be 3-4 miles and will last approximately 3 hours.

Sensible boots, warm and waterproof clothing and refreshments are required, and quiet dogs are welcome but must be on leads.

There is a café located at the car park serving hot and cold drinks and refreshments.

The walk is free of charge, however a recommended donation of £3 per person would be gratefully received.
