Helston artist Andrew Barrowman has a solo show at The Old Lifeboat House Gallery in Porthleven from July 15 to 22.

There will be 40 original paintings both framed and unframed in the exhibition and Andrew will be painting in the gallery throughout the event.

He said: "I am also involved in several other open exhibitions during July including the Society of Equestrian Artists in Newmarket, Fresh Paint plein air exhibition at Picton Castle in Pembrokeshire and Buxton Spa Prize plein air exhibition in Buxton, Derbyshire. I also exhibit as a member with Lizard Art."

Andrew favours oils due to their slow drying time and flexibility, enabling him to paint impasto and glazing techniques.

He said: "I paint en plein air and in my studio and I am inspired by the subtleties and drama created by the light.

"In my current work, although I paint figuratively, I am interested in the atmosphere and essence of a place rather than details."

Andrew exhibits in several galleries in Cornwall and regularly sells online. He will be participating in Open Studios 2017 and hopes to broaden his gallery representation to other parts of the country.
