Cornish teams are wanted to take on crews from Devon in a charity challenge in Totnes on October 1.

The with Totnes Rotary Club is organising its annual raft race to help raise funds for local charities, and after hosting teams from Cornwall last year the organisers are hoping to attract a few more for this year’s race.

Club member Geoffrey Hyde said: "Last year we had 47 teams enter and they helped us to raise over £13,000 so this year our aim is to attract over 50 teams hence this appeal asking you if you could put in a team to help us."

He added: "If you have your own charity you would like to support then consider piggy backing on the raft race to raise funds for your charity."

The Rotary Club asks for £40 for each raft team member, with teams between two and 10 people taking part.

If the team can raise more than the £40 per team member sponsorship then any excess can be used to support a charity of its own choice, and last year one team raised £600 for their local cancer charity.

The race will be over 14 km, from Buckfastleigh to Totnes, where there will be a finish event with various attractions, a race progress chart, hog roast, bands, stalls, and fun for all the family.

Entry forms and race details, including raft specifications, can be found at totnesraftrace.co.uk, and the organisers do have access to barrels to help make a raft if needed.
