The Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro has a packed autumn and winter children's programme offering everything from half term fun to Christmas crackers.

The recently launched Museum Club will be offering kids from seven to 14 the chance to take part in a series of workshops, delving deeper into the treasures of the museum.

Visitors can discover more about the collections and exhibitions through a range of activities including object handling, art and craft making, and creative writing, exploring the historical, the beautiful and the weird and wonderful.

Museum Club will run on the 3rd Sunday of each month, from 11am to 12.30pm, and will cost £3 per session, although there are limited places so booking is essential on 01872 272205 or enquiries@royalcornwallmuseum.org.uk

On Sunday, September 17, will be the Museum Notebooks workshop, where children can design and make a personalised notebook to start their museum journal of drawings, writing and ideas: Choose a favourite object on display and create a special poem for National Poetry Day.

On Sunday, October 15, the museum will look at Fantastic Fossils, examining fascinating fossils and creating artwork inspired by their shapes and patterns, and making special ‘faux’ fossils.

The museum will host Ancient Egypt and the Afterlife on Sunday, November 19, where visitors can learn about the afterlife, handle artefacts from Egyptian tombs, create beautiful observational drawings and make an Egyptian style charm.

And on Sunday, December 17, Victorian Christmas traditions come to the museum: Unwrap some typical Victorian Christmas presents, make traditional decorations and treats, then play party games.

The museum also has a raft of half term activities from October 23 to 27.

Messy-Monday from 11am to 3pm offers the chance to make pottery jigsaws, get creative with drop-in arts and crafts sessions, and make a piece of art inspired by the museum’s collection and displays to take home.

On Wednesday and Thursday will be Diggin’ Down, where children can come and see what they can find in the archaeological dig, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

On Friday the Clay Pots and Patterns Workshop will run from 10.30am to midday and 1.30pm to 3pm, offering the chance to create a special clay pot based on ancient designs. This session costs £3 per person, is for ages five and older, and booking is required.

And on Saturday the Big Draw - Living Lines will explore the lines formed in nature and allow visitors to create their own with materials including string, light and even tea leaves.
