The Eden Project's annual beer festival is set to return on Saturday, September 30, with its usual wide-ranging beer selection topped up with a new pub quiz and gin bar.

The beer selection will have a distinctly Cornish flavour, with a collection of St Austell Brewery’s limited edition Eden-inspired small batch brews leading the way, including Mocha Chocca Lotta, a stout made with Eden chocolate and coffee, and Honey I’m Home, containing Eden honey.

Other Cornish favourites at the festival include Rebel's 80 Shilling, Keltek's Magik and Tintagel Brewery's Poldark, while beers from outside Cornwall are well-represented too, with the likes of Thornbridge Brewery's Jaipur and Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker.

This year sees the introduction of a new gin bar which will be offering a taste of 15 Cornish gins, including Tarquin's Cornish Navy Seadog Gin, recently named the world's best at this year's San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Other Tarquin's tipples will be available - including Tarquin's Eden Baobab Gin, crafted in partnership with Eden using the eponymous African superfruit - as well as others on the forefront of the Cornish gin revival such as the Wrecking Coast Distillery's Cornish Clotted Cream Gin, Curio Rock Samphire Gin and Aval Dor's Fowey River Cider Apple Gin.

Ciders will also be returning as part of the festival with the likes of St Ives Cider, Cornish Orchards and Healey's all providing drinks.

The new pub quiz promises a tough test for festival-goers, with a selection of teasers on both beer and Cornwall. Prizes will be given to the winning teams. Live music will be on offer throughout the evening from Winston’s Awake, a lively Cornish blues rock band, The Kit Hillbillies, an old-fashioned, toe-tapping bluegrass string band, and London-based, Cornish-crafted folk-rock band Ennor.

Meanwhile, the food village will be serving a selection of delicious gourmet Cornish burgers and kebabs until 9pm.

Andrew Holden, Eden's procurement director, said: "Each year our aim is to bring you the very best that our local craft brewers and cider makers offer, but 2017 will stand out as the first year we are able to offer a burgeoning list of award-winning Cornish gins to our festival.

“All this coupled with our Eden festival foods and unmissable music line-up guarantees to make this another unforgettable night."

The pub quiz is free to enter and registration will open between 6pm and 6.30pm, before the quiz starts at 6.45pm, and the results will be announced at 8.30pm.

Tickets to the beer festival cost £12.50, which includes four drinks and a commemorative pint glass to keep. This year the main bar will be open from noon and the gin bar from 4pm to allow day visitors as well as ticketholders a taste of local brews. After 6pm the event will be for ticketholders only.

The festival is due to close at midnight with last orders at 11.30pm, for more information see edenproject.com
