Crafty kids - and big kids - can enjoy all sorts of activities next weekend as Krowji is transformed into a Fun Palace for the day.

As part of Fun Palaces 2017, the Redruth arts centre will hold a free celebration of community, bringing people together with arts, science, crafts and technology, on Saturday, October 7, from 11am to 3pm, along with venues across the UK and the world.

Krowji will host activities, workshops and demonstrations led by 20 of the artists and makers based on the site. Visitors of all ages and abilities will have the chance to interact with artists, learn techniques and try out hands-on activities, and the Melting Pot Cafe will open throughout the event.

Visitors can immerse themselves in artistic investigations, interactive creative activities, craft workshops and technical demonstrations, based on the science of creativity and the art of science.

Jeweller Nicola Bottono will be showing visitors how to apply texture and colour to metal, Caro Beech will be teaching the techniques of gelli printing, Sarah Cooling will be experimenting with paint, and screen-printer Paul Bawden will be letting visitors have a go at pulling their own print.

There will also be the chance to design a moth to sew with Marie Magor textile artist, investigate Why things Glow in the Dark? with Signs and Wonders, discover shadow, space and form with Vanessa Penrose or examine the cells in our bodies with Bettina Holland using felt making.

Visitors can turn their hand to other materials and try out jewellery techniques with Hayley Agar and Sinead’s Silver Design, marbling with artist Lesley Plumridge, using colourful pastels with Julia Rowlands or scientific processes on organic matter with Toni Mason.

They can also join mixed media artist Vicki Aimers making books inspired by female astronomers of the past, help Lizzie Stevens bring free-spirited plasticine people to life and watch glass artist Naomi Singer create winter decorations, watch the techniques of still life painting with Colin Brown, draw seasonal plants from the nature table with artist Melanie Johns Overlap and help illustrator Tangled Peacock create an enormous nature doodle.

Fun Palaces create events that bring together arts and sciences – but above all people – to work together, create together, have fun together, and in doing so build communities from the grassroots up.
