Penzance Library will be hosting an evening of poetry and music on May 9, featuring poetry performances from TS Eliot Prize nominee Annie Freud and music from folk singer Jim Causley.

The event will be the first in a series of performances as part of the 26-date "Word on Tour," which brings live literature to local libraries across the South West.

Helen Chaloner, CEO of Literature Works said: “Word on Tour is about bringing the region’s writing and performance talent to the door of local communities. Our local library is an essential shared space that is open to all. We hope audiences will embrace these fun, thought-provoking and celebratory performances.”

Annie Freud is renowned for her live performances, and is the daughter of artist Lucien Freud and is a painter herself, and will read from her latest collection The Remains. Jim Causley's performances put music to the poetry of his great uncle and much loved Cornish poet Charles Causley. Both artists' work is influenced by the South West landscape and their own artistic heritage.

The tour starts off with the Penzance date and continues with events in Bodmin, St Austell, and St Ives, where there will be performances from theatre company The Story Republic; poets Julia Copus, Pascale Petit and Alyson Hallett; and nature writer Miriam Darlington.

The event is presented by Literature Works, a registered charity and Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation that supports creative writing and the development of writers and readers or all ages in the South West.
