A local drama group of young deafblind people, GOT 2 ACT, is putting on a stage adaptation of the life and times of Deafblind activist Helen Keller, entitled American Idol.
Tamika Pearn takes on the role of the American author who was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama in 1880 and was struck deafblind, following an illness.
Karen Bryan plays Helen’s teacher, Anne Sullivan, who helped her make tremendous progress with her ability to communicate.
The play tells the story of how Keller went on to college and became the first |deafblind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
GOT 2 ACT is part of Cornish based ‘Get Out There’ group, an organisation for young people with little or no sight and hearing supported by national deafblind charity Sense.
Many of the young people in the group have additional complex needs such as epilepsy, diabetes, autism, hearing |impairments, communication difficulties and limited mobility.
