The Falmouth Methodist Church will be hosting a group of choirs from the Bath and Bristol area who sing under the title Good Afternoon Choirs on Saturday May 19.

The Cornwall Community Choirs will also be performing, led by Neil Shepherd.

Bath based choir leader and patron of the Cornwall Community Choirs Grenville Jones said: “It’s going to be a fantastic night of music making with lots of opportunities for the audience to join in and sing along!”

In recent years, community choirs across the UK have seen a phenomenal growth, and the Cornwall Community Choirs now stretch across the county with hundreds of singers now enjoying being part of the groups.

The choir groups offer people the chance to develop their singing skills, teaching them the basics of reading music; but also offers the chance to be part of a community in a network with links across the country.

They all offer a live accompanist rather than backing tracks, and they welcome both experienced and beginner choristers, with weekly practices covering everything from Bach to The Beatles.

There are community choirs in Falmouth, Helston, Truro, Penzance, Bodmin, Liskeard, and a St Ives/Hayle group based at Carbis Bay.

Grenville Jones is one of the country's leading choir masters, having appeared on radio and television across the world, and he was recently one of the 100 judges on BBC1's Saturday night All Together Now.

As a friend of Cornwall Community Choir leader Neil Shepherd, Grenville is patron of the Cornwall Community Choirs and on May 19 will bring a group of 60 choristers to Falmouth, representing his own Good Afternoon Choirs from around Bath and Bristol.

Doors open at 7.00pm at Falmouth Methodist Church with a £5 entry charge. There will also be a collection at the end of the concert supporting Cornwall Hospice Care.
