From July 18 to September 2 the National Maritime Museum is a portal into the world of Vikings, Pirates and Norse Gods.

Each week will be a different theme of either Vulgar Vikings, Mythical Monsters or Pesky Pirates.

There are two Vulgar Vikings weeks, one starting on July 27, with the other starting August 17. Each day will offer a chance for young Vikings to make themselves a hat, sword and a shield.

Other Viking events include theatre productions by Fleet of Foot Theatre who will be transporting listeners into the Viking world on July 28. While Viking Sagas will be performed on July 29 by Rattlebox Theatre.

Pesky Pirates week runs firstly from August 3, and then from August 24. Each week kicks off with a ‘Shiver me Timbers’ pirate hat and parrot making afternoon. On August 4, there will be a Treasure Tales story afternoon based on a document in the archives of the Cornwall Record office that lists buried treasure.

Mythical Monsters starts on August 10, and each day there will be a monstrous mask making workshop., while on August 11 there will be storytelling with Sally Crabtree.

There is also a new Dragon’s Den where a massive dragon can be found. He has a very long neck that is ideal for sliding down, which is usually only attempted by the brave.

All activities are free with Museum entrance ticket unless otherwise stated. For more information contact nmmc.co.uk.
