Falmouth Art Gallery has two exceptional exhibitions starting this week. Serpentine – Artists of The Lizard showcases the astounding works of artists based in and around The Lizard Peninsula opens this Friday, November 28, while Man Made Cornwall: The Paintings of Tony Giles opened on Tuesday, November 23.

The isolated position and unique landscape of The Lizard has always captivated artists. The internationally renowned artists Bryan Ingham and John Tunnard both lived there and it continues to be a focal point for artists. The Serpentine - Artists of The Lizard exhibition shines a spotlight on The Lizard’s often overlooked role as a hub for Cornish artists and craftspeople.

Featuring alongside Ingham and Tunnard will be works by 30 contemporary artists including: Jeremy Annear, Nicola Bealing, Judy Buxton, Barrie Cook, Jonathon Coudrille, Martin Grimshaw, Phillip Hogben, Louise McClary, Juliette Paull, Vince Tutton, Mark Surridge and Lisa Wright to name a few.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of free talks and events. On Friday, November 27 at 11am there will be a Serpentine exhibition talk. This will be followed by the exhibition preview between 6-8 pm that evening.

Tony Giles' paintings are the subject of the Man-made Cornwall show running until January 23 at the entrance gallery and showcases a lively selection of railway scenes, industrial landscapes and seascapes in this show.

Tony was born at Taunton, Somerset, close to the railway yards. His father was an engine driver for GWR and as a child Tony would often travel in the leading coach as his dad brought the London train down to Penzance. hapels.
