Gweek Silver Band are celebrating their 90th anniversary with a string of events at the end of this month.

This year's celebratory events include a clay pigeon shoot, an evening of music by local bands and a pig roast, all of which will be held during Gala Week.

Gweek Silver Band formed in 1926 after a group of men from Gweek village bought a set of second-hand instruments and played their first public performance of carols walking around the village on Christmas morning, a tradition that still continues as the band remains a strong part of the village community.

The clay pigeon shoot will take place at Zelah Farm in Gweek on Friday, July 22 at 6pm. The evening of music by local bands, featuring Gweek Band and Porthleven Band, will take place at Helford Gig Club on Sunday, July 24 at 6.30pm. If it rains this will be relocated to Gweek village hall.

The pig roast evening will be at Helford gig club on Tuesday, July 26 at 6.30pm. This evening will feature plenty for the family, including children's sports, sheaf pitching and a tug of war. Helston Concert Brass will be providing entertainment throughout the evening.

Everyone is welcome to each of the events to celebrate the band's anniversary.
