A massed choir singing event is being held in Truro to celebrate United Nations World Peace Day.

The event will see approximately 20 choirs singing throughout the day while other choirs around the world do the same as part of 'One Day One Choir', a global initiative started in 2014 which gathers choirs around the world to sing for peace.

Organiser, Paul Haines, said: "More than ever, we need peace in this world. Be a part of this huge celebration for World Peace Day."

Massed Choirs Sing for Peace will take place on Wednesday, September 21 from 1pm to 9pm.

The choirs will perform outside the Cathedral from 1pm to 3pm, along with speakers talking about peace; then from 3.30pm to 5pm there will be a session in Truro Methodist Church for groups using singing therapeutically, such as Dementia, Parkinson’s and breathing disorders.

From 6pm to 9pm, everyone is invited to Truro Methodist Church to listen to more choirs and people speaking about peace, before a communal sing to finish.

There is no admission charge but donations are welcome for 'Children of Peace', a UK-based charity aiming to help support groups in the Middle East.

Anyone who would like to help with marshalling, stewarding and collecting donations on the day can contact Paul Haines on 07855 495881, or by emailing paul.haines10@googlemail.com.
