The streets of Truro will be filled with light from lanterns of all shapes and sizes for the City of Lights parade tonight.

Celebrating its 20th year following a rollercoaster of funding hurdles, tonight's event is able to go ahead thanks to a generous emergency donation from Truro City Council, Truro's Business Improvement District team and the 19 business sponsors who raised £5500.

Coinciding with the celebration of 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, this year's theme of 'Tell me a story' has captured the imagination of the artists in residence, school children and college students, who have all created lanterns to illuminate the city.

The event organisers are requesting for donations from the public to ensure the event can return next year.

Donations can be made either on the night using the collection buckets, online at cityoflights.org.uk, or by sending a text to 70070 saying COLT16 followed by the donation amount.

The City of Lights parade will take place on Wednesday, November 23 from 7pm.

The parade will start at the top of Lemon Street, by the Richard Lander Monument. It will go down Lemon Street and along Boscawen Street onto River Street. It will then move along Little Castle Street onto Kenwyn Street and back along Boscawen Street, before going down Princes street and making its way on to Lemon Quay.

The City of Lights team thanks everyone who has helped to make this parade happen and wishes everyone "a magical experience" at tonight's parade.
