Saturday mornings in a cosy room in Carnon Downs might sound a world away from danger, but in the new year writers there will be pushing boundaries and discovering what it means to write dangerously.

Felicity Notley will be leading a series of eight workshops on Saturday mornings from January to April, designed to allow those who want to write to find the freedom to do so.

She said: “My aim is to set up optimum conditions for writing, to create a safe environment so that students can allow themselves to write dangerously.”

There will be eight workshops, each focused around a particular theme. Each session will take its inspiration from the work of established writers and there will be elements of poetry and prose, as well as practical techniques.

Felicity said: “I am interested in looking in detail at tricky areas such as dialogue and emotions.

“I also love it when a short story or piece of non-fiction takes you by surprise, word after word. I have been exploring and admiring writing techniques for over ten years. I hope to share some of this.”

Felicity’s published work includes poetry and short stories. She has been longlisted for the Mslexia Novel Prize and shortlisted for the Bridport Prize for poetry. She gained a scholarship to study on UEA’s Creative Writing MA and is currently writing her second novel. Felicity worked for five years at the Falmouth Bookseller, and is a member of Falmouth Poetry Group and Telltales.

The workshops will be held on Saturday January 7 and 14, February 4 and 25, March 4, 11 and 25, and April 1, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

They will take place in the Meeting Room of Carnon Downs Village Hall, and all eight sessions will cost £40, or £32 for concessions, with a £5 reduction on bookings before December 15.
