Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank has said a big thank you to all its generous donors following a busy festive period providing clients with festive food packages and presents for children.

The team at the foodbank are now turning their attention to the year ahead and fundraising towards the purchase of its home at the Highway Church in Penryn.

As part of that fundraising effort, the Highway Community Centre will be hosting a women’s clothes swap run by The Hagar Project on Saturday, February 11, from 11am to 2pm.

Entrance to the event will be £3.50 and a token system will be used for the swap, with ten tokens provided and one token purchasing one item, while further items can be purchased for £1 each.

Items for the clothes swap can be dropped at the Foodbank ahead of the event from Monday 6 to Wednesday 8, between 11am and 1pm each day.

Refreshments will be available to purchase by donation, and there will also be a free Suminagashi marbling art workshop by Colour Riot, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Foodbank Coordinator Sarah Simons, who also runs The Hagar Project, said: “This is a day for women to enjoy some time out together, updating their wardrobes and maybe taking home a piece of artwork, too. It's a fun way to socialise with other women whilst helping us raise much needed funds for the Foodbank.”

The Foodbank is based at the Highway Church on Commercial Road in Penryn and is part of the Falmouth and Penryn Churches Together network. As well as providing emergency food packages, the foodbank offers additional services through the Lizard Partnership which supports people back into work, and Cornwall Befriending Service which provides advice on a range of subjects including housing issues, welfare benefits and debt management.

Further fundraising events will be held in 2017, and Sarah added: “If there are any individuals or organisations in the community who are interested in supporting the Foodbank in any way, we would be very pleased to hear from you.”
