WITH a bio that describes the band as “a little like the audible equivalent of gout. They seem to come back” you can’t fail to love Zapoppin'.
And they are indeed back with their fifth full length album, although by their own admission, its quite short at 20 minutes.
Centred musically around the harmonium , banjo and a home-made l'il drum kit called The Z-Kit, all the songs are about ugliness in some way - either metaphorically or literally.
The album, entitled Ugly Musick is diverse - a mixed bag of surprises which should grab listeners track by track.
Throw in a handful of collaborations from Julian Gaskell and Dave Hart (hammond and vox on The Joneses) and no. 1 Zapoppin’ fan Abi Simeoli, reading the poem Ugly Music you have a real little gem.
Released on the bands own label Damnsonic - head to the bands website to find out more http://zapoppin.bandcamp.com
